Lockerbie. In memory of Pan Am flight 103

I often drive past Lockerbie on my way home from visits to England but don't often stop. A few days after the Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbasset al-Megrahi, died in Libya I found myself on the road past Lockerbie again and felt I shouldn't just pass by this time.

I felt the urge, as one does(!), to get naked somewhere nearby and experience being there with all my senses. As usual, I'd planned to take a break from driving and relax a while by getting naked in public somewhere, and it seemed like the right place to do it this time. Not really knowing the town well enough to get my clothes off in town anywhere (and it was late afternoon anyway so lots of people would still be about), I headed to the nearby countryside and took a walk in the woods ay Dryfesdale. I think some of the victims of the bombing are buried in Dryfesdale Cemetary so that seemed a good place to go.

I parked up and undressed by the car, listening out for sounds of anyone approaching. Putting my shorts & t-shirt in a rucksac, in case I had to dress quickly (not knowing the area, I wasn't brave enough to leave them behind as I usually would), I set off for a 3-mile woodland walk. The air was warm and the light breeze felt so good against my skin. All the way, I was listening out for sounds of people and at one point nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard a noise very close to me through the trees. It turned out to be a herd of cows in the field beside the woods, who then tracked me along the fence line, hoping for food I guess.

I got back to the car without hearing or seeing anyone (and without anyone seeing me!), but I'd enjoyed being on edge all the way round and half expecting to have to dash for cover at any moment. (and half hoping someone would see me so that I could enjoy their reaction). I haven't yet been caught on any of my frequent naked walks, but I've had a few close shaves and it's going to happen sooner or later, I'm sure.
